If i ever get the front garden beds done (lots of tree removal involved) it will be a mix of cream and white roses with a dash of lavender blue here and there , hopefully very pretty and restful
colour is a very individual thing, OH and I often see a flower colour differently, but as a rule of thumb...The top garden is mostly pinks with blue and no yellow flowers although foliage is fine. The middle garden is anything hot colours with a focus on cool foliage. There are one or two shrubs/climbers that have pink in them but I'm okay with some contrast.
The bottom garden is newest and I specifically focused on purple and white planting and although this worked well, I do think it needs some contrasting elements but on the whole, its a cool relaxing area with a pergola to be build there
I used to be one of those awful people wh stands in the entrance of the supermarket, trying to sell credit cards, one of the things we did to while away the hours was to watch who brought what from the flower stand, the men always went for the brightest even strangely coloured things possible, those ones which have been dyed bluey green seemed to be popular! Made me wonder if we see colour differently? I could just imagine the lady recieving the flowers trying to look grateful!
Blue/purple and white is such a classic and with good reason wintersong, thats going to be beautiful
Must be fairly difficult to get a good balance of shades, texture etc with green and white Verdun, but if anyone can do it, you can
I think we do all see colours differently - my mother always used to say I mixed colours in a 'clashing' way and even though I have learnt which colours aren't supposed to mix (or other people find distasteful -) it's rare for me to notice it...
On that note, as far as annual planting goes my South facing fence is having a mix of orange, red and blue in the baskets this year.
Most of the stuff in the ground is perennial and I've shifted a lot around to make colour themed beds & borders for this year.
I've put together an all pink border and that's in the front garden so I hope it doesn't prove too offensive () and I'm being extremely strict with myself with a new lilac and burgundy rather thin border.
I put together a blue-purple Vs orange-yellow border too but I ended up putting a red climbing rose at the back so I've kind of ruined that one. I'm also persevering with a white 'n' blue part shade border which has been distinctly unimpressive for the past two years...
Never bothered with coordinating beds before but read a design book last year and ended up moving half the garden. If it all work out the right side of the garden will start with shades of pink and have some blues/purple running through it which will then move through to an area which is orange and gold with blue/ purple running through it.
I have also started on a shady section which is going to be white and green (hence the purchase of hydrangea limelight. If it all works out it will be a miracle.
Vic, thats why we are fortunate to have gardens, they are our creations...it really dosent matter if others find it pleasing, tho its a bonus if they do
Yvie, im supprosed your hubby hasnt "lost" that book, your plans sound fab, looking forward to the pics
You're quite right, Bekkie It doesn't really matter if I don't like it come to that.
The only thing which will disappoint me is if my efforts to create year long interest means only one thing flowers at a time. That's how the white border has been testing me
