I like the way Daryl2 uses Provado for their pots, will try that way this year!

I was wondering if any other chemical could be used as a drench to kill vine weevil?

As for the garden as a whole I use the nematodes and seems to work.

Thanks folks ...thats what I've gotimage.  Can you use the nematodes in winter, or do I have to wait til it warms up??

Ok thanks - will resort to chemicals this once, and remember to nematode next autumn to see me thru the winter. The pots are in a GH, but unheated, and definitely dips below 5image.

btw, seeing as you 2 boys are looking in ... Operation brambles and pipecleaners started last weekend. Will let you know the results in due course, on the appropriate threadimage

  • UGH , ugh and ugh again - hate the blighters!

They can be anything up to and inch long - orangey head, creamy, disgusting, fat body.

Have I mentioned how much I despise them?

Definitely use nematodes to control them in the future - April and October for a big infestation. Or alternatively Provado only in pots that doth have pollinating insects visiting that plant.

    Works for me.

Definately sounds like the dreaded vine weevil .  As the various treatments are quite expensive you might find it cheaper, and easily done , if the pots are accessible to empty them out , dispose of the old compost and its little visitors, wash the roots gently and repot in fresh compost . I find this works well with polyanthus which seem to feature highly on the vine weevil menu.
