Yes rained here in Jersey too on and off. I too am making mental notes of lots of things to do.The rain has made the ground lovely and soft and I've been digging out Allium triquetrum - Three cornered leak. It spreads so much I needed to get a lot out. The I can move plants around and plant new stuff in.
I'm champing at the bit to get started. I did have some Dahlia seedlings in a seed tray, but the damp weather has brought out the snails. They have dined well, and I now have an empty seed tray to fill!
Been GC today and got myself some goodies for the new border . After spoiling myself on a cylinder mower on Monday and getting to carried away at the GC I got no spending money left now I even had to ask for a borrow couldn't be putting plants back could I . I did really want them Hostas - El nino - Patriot - Liberty but I didn't pick them up spent way to much this week.
Only an hour's gardening today, before my fingers froze. Moved a clump of dog's tooth violets (Erythronium dens-canis) in the hope - probably a forlorn hope - that they'll flower for me next Spring. Also fed daffodils, put down slug pellets, picked more moss out of alpines on the terraced bank, and planted a couple of shade-lovers I bought at the Harrogate show (Claytonia and Epimedium). Then in for a cuppa!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Lovely day in the garden yesterday but was too tired to post after eight hours of work
tried my hand at stump removal although I had to be happy with side-shoot removal
Planted Verbascums x3
Planted two homeless ferns
rescued a poor Hellebore division that's had a string of bad luck (bits knocked off, slug dmg etc)
Potted up two baby shrubs to grow on
Arranged shady corner with steps to hosta bed that also happen to be the route run for my excitable pooch, so he shouldn't hurt himself or my plants when he's having a nutty
After all that landscaping, I planted up and mulched with Lonicera, ferns and knobbly Box balls
Like Wintersong, I was busy, then tired yesterday and didn't post. Last autumn OH dug up a huge, dying cotoneaster horizontalis and a horrid prickly conifer that was smothering a Choisya. Yesterday I finally dealt with digging manure and compost into the bed and re-planting it.
Small leafed lilac, Vanille Fraise hydrangea, Caryopteris, 2 hardy Fuschia Delta Sarah, Perovskia, Buddleia Buzz and a row of bedding dahlias.
The stone in the middle is the septic tank cover!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I'll have to do something about the choisya, but it's flowering at the moment. Can I cut it hard back when it's finished? It's about 20 years old and I cut a lot off last autumn. That sideways branch was under the conifer, it doesn't look too bad from the other path.
