LK that reminds me of all the different plastic containers you can get to cook different things in the micro wave, I bought an egg poacher, used it once, the poached eggs tasted like rubber, I'm sure they'd have bounced of the floor.
I do have a poached egg pan though, wouldn't be without it but then I can't cook an egg in hot water it ends up in a zillion pieces.
One gadget we had which wasn't useless and therefore obviously broke down and couldn't be replaced was a sandwich maker. Unlike every other one I've seen it just sealed around the edged, it didn't cut the sandwich into triangle shapes. It was brilliant for making fried egg toasties, any other make would chop the raw egg in half - not a good idea.
They were selling off packets of Yorkshire pudding mix in the local shop last week. I was curious and discovered that all you had to do was add egg and milk so guess what was in the packet!
Zoomer49, why does your poached egg end up in a zillion pieces? Mine don't
I put a drop of vinegar in the water then put the whole eggs in in their shells and turn them round for about 30 seconds. Take them out and let them cool then break the eggs into the gently simmering water. No swirling so I can get several to a pan. The pre-cook sets any loosy egg white so you don't get ribbons. Works best with very fresh eggs but also good with ones a few days older. No gadgets, just a pan and a slotted spoon.

Have most of the above gadgets....still cant cook! Have burned many a pan attempting to cook rice. In this house you can have your food raw in the middle or burned !
What use are those brooms with a short handle? They can go as far as im concerned!
That nice company in the lake district do a great egg poacher mine are yellow silicon you lightly oil but I use butter pop the egg in (out of its shell) then whole thing into boiling water (just below the top) and watch it poach perfect every time.
Now I'm hungry poached eggs on toast for tea.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.
