Can anyone identify this weed?

Please can anyone help us to identify this weed?

They have very distinctive white roots that stem from a black main root that is well below the surface. It has single leaves with a main point and jagged edges, mottled green to dark green leaves and has green/purple stems. The roots break easily and soon regrow to form another plant. It is very persistent, even when using strong weed killer.

If anyone can shed some light, we'd be very grateful.

The nearer leaf in the top pic looks like a japanese anemone

I;d say the same, they can spread readily and are easy to propagate by root cuttings.

  • Could be a bramble or a japanese anemone...or something else!

My first thought was a Japanese anemone too. The leaves are exactly like that.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • If its not killed by weed killer, then i would say bramble image

  • Well i thought they looked odd too nut, but i think i remember digging some like that up, the dark bits were very far down, i think the ones i dug up wer left over bits from a cultivated variety??? Seems such a long time since i did anything in the back garden, i could be mistaken! image

    Hi bekkieimage

I think this is something that spreads by underground roots rather than putting its tips down and rooting like a bramble.

It seems a while since I've done any proper gardening, it's all been saws, loppers and shredding lately. Graft. I want to play with plants and watch things growing
