Not usually quite that late Dove - it varies like everywhere else of course but the trick seems to be to have everything ready in the wings for planting as soon as the last frost has gone, and that's the difficult bit! I usually have yards of fleece and piles of newspaper to hand now - the first year I lost my potato tops to frost in May. At least the snowdrops are up to keep me going!
My experience of Scotland is a bit limited nightgarden - it is acknowledged that the week we chose to spend Midsummer's Day on the Hebrides had some particularly grim moments but some magical ones as well
