manure
I have some one year old cow manure - am I right in thinking this can go on the veg garden now?

I was planning to do it at the end of last year but stuff got in the way, I'm in Scotland and the 'Do it now' info suggests top digging manure in now. I could wait but the soil really needs a boost..
If you put it on now, there's still plenty of time before you start planting things in it. You don't need to dig it in, just spread it on the top and let the worms do the work! But don't spread it on if the ground's frozen, as it will take longer to thaw out.
I agree with patate
I'd do it now. The season starts fairly late in Scotland, so I think you'll be fine to spread it now.
Thanks everyone for your advice, I'll be spreading tomorrow, the forecast is for below zero next week so I'd better work fast!
As an afterthought - my veg patch is divided into 4, all are ready except one that has quite a lot of weeds - should I turn them under before adding manure or will the manure smother them?
That's what I was thinking - it may be a bit late for you to put manure on your veg patch Verdun, but the arrival of spring in your lovely Cornwall is almost here - if Nightgarden is in Scotland in my experience he/she'll be lucky if spring arrives before May
