To think of it I am going to try dwarf sweet peas in a hanging basket 14" one easy fill - I don't know whether to put sweet peas around the sides in the gates or just in the top

any one got an opinion which way to do?

    Hello Everyone

Me and the Mrs have started to make the hanging baskets we have used Petunia's , trailing Lobelia and Petunia's ,Petunia's,Petunia's,Petunia's and Petunia's he he

Reason for this is when i sowed the Petunia's back in march i didn't realise that the teeny tiny seeds would grow to nearly 100 lush green plants ha ha.

Hopefully they will continue to grow well and flower well which some have already .

We are hoping that they will give the big bushy flowery effect we are looking for .

Your basket looks great, I finally sowed petunias after getting new seeds and they are getting there, going to try and start baskets soon with other plants first,  I've got nasturtiums and marrigolds

Gave up on the morning glory in a basket took a while to grow now going to grow up a wire trellis

Hia GG i put some african marrigolds in 3 hanging baskets put some in the side of the baskets also but nothing is happening they look poor but i blame the cold weather for that but now that the weather is gonna warm up so hopefully they'll come on better i'll post a photo if they flower but i'm not holding my breath.

As for morning glory i've planted a load next to a fence so i'm hoping they'll climb up that.

    Thanks

Well done Helen, good first try, but would look better if there were moss, or that stuff you can buy, between the black plastic and the basket frame. Even an old suitably coloured cut up pullover. But the flowers should cover a lot of it later. Another thing you can do is plant through the sides by cutting slits in the black plastic and pushing plug plants in, then you get more growth lower down. Love the owl, cute image

It's a bit late for plugs now, as they are very young plants. But next year you could use petunias, lobelia, nemesia, diascia, begonias, pelargoniums - half hardy annuals. Garden centres are full of them in April/May or you can buy them on line.

Yours will look great when the plants have grown more.
