Thank you Matt Bob Olly and Shelley my plant has remarkably recovered in the space of two days and your'e advice was just what i needed. Originally i moved my plant from the window because of the cold (lesson learnt) to a different part of the room but next to a drafty door. I then moved to a bedroom which was warmer but not so bright. The pics i put on here were at night so it looked even darker. But i'm amazed how quickly it seems to have recovered and hopefully the threadbare stem will produce new stems. Thanks so much.

Thanks Matt i think i might have been confusing this with my umbrella plant but i ashall not give too much water now i know the causes.
