It would be error here. Mine will be lifted tomorrow, drained and then wrapped in newspaper and stored in the garage which never freezes. My two hardy fuchsias have been transferred to a window box with 4 of the tender trailing varieties and they will all spend winter together in the attic - under a Velux till they lose their leaves.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Alan - it's insulation against the cold. We had our first frost last night. Very beautiful but a signal to get a wellie on sorting out the last of my babies and divisions for winter and lifting the last of the dahlias which have been fine till now in pots in full sun.

I lifted my dahlias about 10 days ago and they are currently upended in a large cardboard box in the garage to drain any moisture. I think I bruised one tuber because it has a beetroot coloured stain on a small area. Will this tend to rot or can it be left?
I'm sure everyone else is the same, but all my bulbs are shooting up and my flowers still in bloom ..... Don't know if they're coming or going , poor things

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks for this advice we have had a lot of rain too, so think I will dig up now rather than wait for the frost

Still no frosts here yet. Not that I want any. A jasmine in the garden is full of flower buds so I dont want any :P
