Free Holiday in the Dordogne France

Hello,

I and my wife live in the Dordogne region of France, we have a largish garden (1 acre) mainly lawns, with many trees both fruit and conifers, and a small vegetable patch.

Due to health problems, I have a bad back and my wife has a painful knee problem we cannot do the work that our garden needs.

We would be happy to offer free accommodation in a self contained flat in our house, in exchange for a couple of hours gardening each day.

We live in a beautiful region, close to Souillac and Sarlat, in the valley of the Dordogne.

If you are a keen gardener who would like an Autumn break please contact me on

[email protected]][email protected]  or phone on 0033 553 29 8814

We look forward to hearing from you, photos available

  • Hi Peter, I too live in the Dordogne, so hello. Good luck with your request, sounds like a fair offer to me.

I wish I could offer some help but unfortunately I spend nearly all day everyday in my own garden and it is still very much in need of attention. Earlier in the year I did put out a similar request and one chap did volunteer, but we just couldn't get dates organised. He may well offer his help, he lives in France too, bit further north.

  • I have a friend who when doing an Open University language course was obliged to spend some time in the relevant country (Spain for him). Perhaps you could speak to them about some kind of 'placement'. I remember my friend struggling to find somewhere cheap enough.

Oi! PS2!  Being an OU graduate I resent the implication that a BSc precludes an ability to work hard.  Doing a couple of hours gardening pales into comparison with being responsible for 140 dairy cattleimage

Hello, Peter, I live in Dordogne too, but sorry I can't help either, my own garden takes all my time. I'm NE of Périgueux. Hope you find someone.

In Belgium there is a system - Titres Services - where unemployed people can do paid domestic work for a max number of hours per week and at a good rate for the employer.  The person concerned can thus boost their incme without losing benefits and pension credits and health insurance whilst still having tme to seek permanent employment.

There may well be such a system in France.  It's worth asking.
