It is interesting Verdun, because I keep mine slightly damp, and in a cold, but not freezing porch. I then bring them into the house in February to start growing. OH hates it, because I keep them behind a sofa, next to a window for 3 months.

  • My experience is you can dry store them if the rhizome is big. If you grew from seed this year then store in slightly damp soil or they will tend to die They are bog plants in warmer climates.

I leave them to be lightly frosted basically to minimise the time they are stored for. You remove all of this years growth, being careful not to cut down next years growth, though it will continue to grow.

I just store them in the garage.

hartcanna.co.uk  have just about every Canna in cultivation, but they are very expensive.

I think the key is getting from a supplier that does not have the Canna virus. I always ask.

  • Can you tell me how much should I cut my Cana Lily bach? More to the point, how tall should the stems that are left be?

I kept mine in boxes of dry compost in the garage and they died. image Perhaps it's just too cold here, often -10° in winter.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
