Like the bird feeder idea Beaus.  In fact all the ideas here are good it just depends on what is practical for Billie.  My cherries in brandy recipe is probably a no goimage

  • Hi Dorset and Linda, your replies came in while I was busy typing the above.  Unfortunately, the way our community centre operates is that it is expensive to hire so setting up for our annual Show the day before and then operating on the day costs well over £100.  We have asked to be allowed to sell tea/coffee etc. but this has been refused on the basis our Show is on the same day as the village festival where commercial vendors pay a rent to sell drinks/food.  Don't think trying to hold it on a different day would solve the problem as we probably wouldn't get many visitors.

I have read the allotment thread involving committees etc. and whilst our Parish Council is superb another person has a stronghold on what happens with our hall.  This person has always won every argument over the years.

Maybe if you send me some Lesley I'll be the judge of wether it's any good or not image

  • Hi I'm back again and, thank you, as even more ideas have come in.  I only have a photocopier with my printer.  Presume that wouldn't be enough. I'm not familiar with scanners.

Billie I don't know how many members are involved.  My advise would be to get as many people involved as possible and thrash it out.  Then wish I'd never said a wordimage

  • There are eight of us in the society and only four of us do anything to keep it going.  The annual show is well supported with entries but we are lucky to 'break even' with the money.  Once a year we have a speaker but in spite of extensive advertising, we are lucky to make a small profit.

There is a craft club in the village, who take part in the event, and we are not allowed to step on their toes.  We haven't had a stall in the christmas fair before and I'm now starting to wonder if it was such a good idea after all.  I also feel in desperate need of some cherries in brandy Lesley.

Oh dear, oh dear.  Was the treasurer too afraid to mention the state of the finances or hadn't realised.  You really haven't much of a chance, have you?  Why so few of you, does nobody garden or do they employ others to garden for them?  How small is the village?  I know what you mean re the village hall, we had one of those sort of persons but I scuttled his boat when he really pushed me too far.  You might be better off combining with another group nearby, and hopefully with more enthusiastic members. Not a good scenario at all which makes everything so much more hard work than it is anyway.  Christmas Fairs are full of disgruntled sellers wondering whether anybody else is doing better than they are.  If you do go ahead with it, look cheerful and glad to see people even if you wish you were a million miles away.  Good luck whatever you do

How about a printed quiz with a flower theme? Twenty questions whose answers are names of flowers. I'm sure the internet could throw up some questions for you if you searched. Would cost nothing to organise but offer a fiver for the winner at 50p a go. Or 'free' prizes like an hours weeding, bag of home grown spuds, lawn cut etc.
