Hi Kathy2 As Steward couldn't contact the previous owner, who had moved from the area a letter was left for him on the plot reminding about overdue rent eviction notice etc. He obviously did appear took the letter and promptly paid the rent albeit grossly overdue.
On my last visit I noticed something not quite right? I noticed my planting area covered by black sheet. It was a weird feeling that someone had messed around a bit-no one was around to speak too.
I emailed the committee expressing what had happened and they told me that someone had seen him and that he's now paid up. Bizarrely he hasn't contacted the committee and he is still not contactable.
As far as I'm concerned the chair has to sort this out- it is upsetting and unsettling. The compromise could be that we share for the time being as we have both paid.
Runnybeak. Creepy it certainly is and cutting my losses could be the way to go. I already have half plot that I love and adore so this additional small bit I guess I can let go.
Weyplotter, could the committee refund both of you half the amount and you could share the plot? If that's feasible, and the other plotholder isn't too interested or able to spare the time, that might suit him too. It sounds like he doesn't have the regular funds to keep it on or something, so maybe that could be a suggestion - if they can get hold of him!
At least the work you've put in wouldn't be completely wasted. I hope you can resolve it though
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Another thought - could the plot holder have "passed on" his plot to someone who wasn't on the waiting list and didn't want to wait for their name to come to the top of the list?? If the original owner has moved from the area why would they want to keep the plot? Was the letter on the plot taken by the original owner or the new owner?? I would certainly look into this - especially as you had asked about an extra plot previously.
Morning- A result. Went to the plot yesterday and saw a great big notice to the previous owner from the steward basically saying that its now been let and no longer belongs to him, he needs to make contact as they've not been able to reach him for mths. Also he hasn't actually paid the full amount.
Although I think it's ugly displaying this infor for all to see-at least It's mine.
Unfortunately some people take on plots and don't maintain them for all sorts of reason but don't give them up. As long as payment is made that seems to be ok-just unfair to those on the WL.
Me too Dove-never planted asparagus before, got the crowns from T&M followed their instructions fingers crossed. Being a bit impatient I'll be tempted to pick before I should.

I was thinking the same as Kathy 2, it's a bit strange that he hasn't been around for a while then pays up and now disappeared again.
Hope you get it sorted out.

Well done Weyplotter - glad you have got your plot after all the hassle - and right next to your other one! It will make it much easier to maintain.
Thanks everyone really appreciated all the input.
Looking forward to hearing how that asparagus bed progresses!
