for various reasons my fuchsias didnt get cut back in the spring nor the variagated cornus between them but they have flowered there socks of for weeks
Thank you it's called deltas Sarah they stay in the garden all year and haven't come to any harm
I have had some others growing in pots for the summer and have just brought them under cover they were plugs from Morrisons and have been wonderful so have the geraniums they were so cheap I don't mind if they don't survive
I have eight or ten fuschias that I have grown from cuttings off the same parent. However some have the parent's pale pink flowers but others are red. Do they revert to red or is there another reason for this variation? Should I leave all of the soft foliage to die back or should I trim them before their first winter outdoors.?
Lyn, those tiny pink ones remind me of pretty jewelled ear-rings. I haven't seen one for a long time but managed to get two cuttings this year and, so far, they are doing fine in the greenhouse. I just happened to be walking past a house in Worthing and there was this magnificent speciman in a very unkempt garden and as I had a plastic bag with me cheekily snipped two cuttings. The fuschia was the only plant in the garden apart from an untidy lawn.
Wow, interesting to read all this. Thanks for the replies.
Lyn mine is like the one in your picture, big red/purple flowers. It's been getting a feed throughout the year and the odd bit of manure put under it. I'll trim it in spring and feed and mulch.
I think it may be Mrs Popple but not exactly sure, they have been here for years, when my dad planted them, been under 4ft of snow, blown about in gales, dad never put mulch on anything, it really is a toughy.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Hi all.i have a hardy fuschia that i planted outside in May.My mum has just pruned it back.Should i dig it up and put it in a pot or leave it where it is,worried about it dying in the winter?many thanks Graham

Fuchsias and viola/pansies are my favourite flowers, have just pricked out hundreds for next years bedding.

That is one beautiful Fuschia little-ann. It looks so good with the variagated cornus.
I find that late summer and autumn are great for the red and purple fuschia but the pink and deep pink ones have bloomed well all summer.
I take cuttings as a precaution too but leave my hardy ones outside even if they are in containers and they've done ok these past few years.
