I planted this one 4 yrs ago - flowered first time last year - 2 flowers - this year had a glorious display for 6 weeks - was wondering if I could slpit them - if so - when?
Hi all...I realy want to grow meconopsis from seed...but have realy struggled in the past
. Can anyone recommend a variety/see manufacturer/germinating method that has worked I' starring to think that my plot is just to dry and sunny. But would like to give it another go
The method I am going to use is to sow them early winter in a large seed tray with a propagator lid and leave them outside all Winter. If things go to plan they should germinate around February. I will pot them up at that point keeping them in a cool porch and plant in the Spring. That's the plan anyway as I've never done them before.
Thanks punkdoc ...are some varities easier than others to germinate establish as i have tried both alba and hentoi violet without success. Do people recommended stratification? I don' think my last batch liked john innes seed compost either. They never grew in it and just died 🤐
Stratification is what I was describing, but by natural methods, rather than using a fridge. My seeds are sown in October and spend the winter in a cold greenhouse. I have had success with M. Hensol Violet, but not yet with the lovely red M. punicea. Overall IMO M.lingholm is probably the easiest. Once germinated, you do need to give them the right conditions: moist, cool, a bit of shade, leafy soil and preferably slightly acidic.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
