Thanks for the suggestions - some I like a lot especially that Abelia.

Would look good with the contrast of the Tiger

I am struggling to remove the current 'floor' of ajuga elsewhere though it does serve its purpose

And the Bergenia - I don't know why I didn't think of that image

certainly getting more of an idea what will go now

And the brunnera are on my list but for the other part of the white garden

Bergenias are spring flowering - the OP wanted late flowering plants, otherwise I would have suggested the white varieties of those. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I did grow white Antirihnums (sp I know) variety Royal Bride - grew them from seed, they have lasted 2 years but have now had it. They were very spectacular and elegant

  • Definitely white violas and Honorine Joubert anemone. Mine a still going strong. Also white begonias just repeat flower well into October, if they're in a sheltered spot - mine are still covered in flowers.

Lysamachia Candela is a nice later flowering white plant.

I think I've settled on these core plants for the parterres:

    Anemone 'Wild Swan'

    Dahlia 'White Perfection'

    Cosmos 'Sonata White'

    Penstemon 'Snowstorm' or Anaphalis triplinervis

Gaura 'Sparkle White' or Physostegia v. 'Alba'

Phlox 'David' or Echinacea 'White Swan'

Rosa 'Margaret Merril' underplanted with Campanula persicifolia alba.

I'll mix in some spot planting of Nicotiana sylvestris, Cleomes and Zaluzianskya capensis as gap fillers. For earlier in the season I'll add Narcissus 'Thalia', Tulipa 'White Triumphator, white lilies, and dot in some Aquilegia vulgaris 'Nivea'.
