Dead Heather?

Hello, planted this a month or two ago. Was originally purple but has since turned this ugly brown. There is still a tiny bit of green seen underneath. Soil is loam/clay and drains reasonably well. Has sunlight on it from midday through to sunset. Is the plant dead in your opinion or is it dying back for winter? What should I do with it? Thanks.

It doesn't look very happy does it? Do you still have the label? Some varieties need acidic soil - more information here http://www.kingfishernursery.co.uk/gardening.html

Oh dear, i have a pieris "little heath"to the right of the heather which is also starting to suffer I think. However the pieris to the left of the heather and the clematis above seem to all be flourishing so figure that one out!
Yes the soil is naturally slightly acidic anyway and I used acidic compost when planting.
Cut off the seed heads to reduce stress , water well and see if the green comes through.
But is your tap water 'hard' and did you use tap water to water them?

I'm in Kent so water is quite hard. I use water butt as first choice for watering but recently outside tap has been used. would that have affected it?
If it's one of the varieties that need acidic soil, it would have had an effect certainly.
