Going round the borders disturbing all the tiny weed seedlings and breaking up the top of the soil, then picking out the bits and big stones that turn up, then I hoe again until it's looking nice and crumbly.
I find weeding therapeutic. If I can't be bothered to dig it out this time, I slice it off at ground level and when it comes up again, I dig it out properly if I feel like it.
Annual weeds and weedlings are easy enough to pull out by hand. It's a mindless task that frees up valuable space for deep and meaningful thoughts which can then be shared in the potting shed.
As Dove says, it depends on how big is the area to weed. If' your're starting out in a newly acquired garden it can be daunting if it's a new build or and old one that's been neglected and there are just weeds.
Doing the weeding by hand lets you see babies of treasures that are worth growing so it's my preferred method too but I do resort to more drastic measures on paths and cobbles. A mini flame thrower is on my list of toys to but for those.

Vinegar isn't a very effective weed killer and requires repeat applications to weaken the plant enough to stop it growing back. Salt causes imbalances in the soil and damages the environment.
I'd just be wary of what it may do to the ph levels of my soil. Depending on what i was growing back there after. Vinegar being very acidic and all. Once you start messing with the ph, its a devil of a job to get rebalanced.

I have a confession to make.

Am I weird?

Nicely put B3
Not sure about the deep and meaningful thoughts though
In my case it's usually random nonsense bouncing around inside my noggin.
Kitty, I'm sure they'd be deep and meaningful to someone
Getting down and hand weeding lets you spot any plant problems quickly. . . . I enjoy grubbing around in the dirt.
