Mould is unimportant, it all rots down in the end.
  • thats what i thought welsh onion don't know whether to just leave it and add some paper to it and then put on allotment.

Compost needs a balance of brown (shredded paper, cardboard) and green (vegetable matter). Leave until it has all rotted down and you can't tell what went into it and the garden and the little wiggy worms will love it.
  • so are you saying just leave it add some green and browns and let it do its thing

You can turn it if you have a mind to, but it will manage quite well doing its own thing.
  • yeh think i will try and turn it just put some cardboard and other stuff in and some soil so will mix it all up. thanks

  • Mould is what helps to break it down - you won't get compost without mould
