  • It is a kitchen caddy supplied by the council we had a spare one so thought of usig that, maybe need to store outside and put stuff in that wen inside one is full and then take big one to allotment
  • Wouldn't the food go moldy when on the compost pile anyway?

It will indeed go mouldy, unless your heap is hot enough to kill those as well.

I think a little one inside and a bigger one outside is the way to go.  You don't want all your waste food hanging around the kitchen for days!

  • yeh so will get a little container for the kitchen and then the kitchen caddy outside and use that to take to the allotment. thanks

Medavidcook, I use a one litre enamel pot with lid as a compost caddy in the kitchen; it gets emptied at least once a day into the compost bin. Had you considered having a compost bin at home, if that is possible for you? When the compost has been made you could empty it into sacks/buckets and take it to your allotment.image

  • dint really have the room for one at home. I try to get to the allotment 2-3 times a week but just don't have a bin full in time, might have to take smaller loads across.

Here in Norfolk they take away kitchen waste in little bio-degradable bags, which we buy from the council. I saw in a shop today something similar which will rot down in 180 days, could this help?

...or just wrap the stuff in newspaper and put the whole package on the compostimage

  • Yeh we have bio food bags from the council(we don't pay) might have a look and can put food in them
  • I use an old sweetie bucket kept under the sink. Mind you it fills up very quickly and keeps the smell in.
