  • Thanks. ltg...I think in the context of village life it's tantamount to a snub to be beaten by a mere male - alas, I'll not enter again.

Regarding recipes/food, I think it would be an excellent idea to open a thread in The Potting Shed.....most gardening forums have one.

Perhaps I could share Mum's recipe for beetroot in lime jelly.

  • Have had visitors all week so was unable to get to the laptop to do any chatting. The reason my bike is calles Alan. An uncle of mine died and left me some money and his name was Alan. I know im daft but im quite happy in my little world. Bought my mum one of those Name a Rose kits for mothers day this year, we named the rose after my mums dog that died last year. Nothing happened with the first lot of seeds but they kindly sent another packet and so far 2 have germinated. Never knew you could grow roses from seed but then you know how daft i am.

  • Dear David k When can i come to tea? I do like cake.

This is my beetroot & chocolate cake.....before you say yucky be assured it's a beautiful moist cake and it doesn't taste of beetroot:

Well, it really isn't any more unusual that putting carrots in carrot cake, Becks....now you mention it, I also make courgette cake, but don't have a pic handy.

Oh, and the beetroot is blitzed in the making.

No, I suppose it isn't is it. Just sounds unusual! image And probably tastes great.

  • Looks lovely i love anything with chocolate in even with beetroot. Hoping my courgettes will get a move on as i have a whole book of courgette recipes.

  • The great part of this cake is that it has small pieces of  plain dark chocolate (at least 60%) added and these stay whole in the cooking.
