Talkback: How to grow hawthorn from seed

  • A friend gave me some hawthorn bush seeds. they are very dry. What would be the best way to plant and grow them

    you need ripe red ones. put them in a pot, some say remove the red stuff but I don't. Cover with some compost and I use grit to hold it all down and prevent algae growth. Leave it outside for the weather to do it's stuff  and they will germinate in spring

    If they're viable that will do the trick, but you may have to wait until Spring 2015 for them to shoot if they've not been kept out in the cool and damp.  

    Or you can get some more seed next autumn to hedge your bets image
