I've no objection to the use of glyphosate but it's very difficult in amongst the desirables

It is indeed, Nutcutlet.  But I did once eradicate bindweed from a rose bed by "planting" bamboo canes next to each bit of bindweed & encouraging the pesky things to climb the bamboo instead of the roses.  Then I could lie the bindweed down & spray it carefully, protecting each rose bush as I went along.  Tedious but effective...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Something needs to be done here Liriodendron. If I stand still too long I might be overtaken by it

  • I might try this method later. i don't want a sea of sticks in my dahlia bed. I don't even use canes to support the plants.

Is everyone watering? ( just to change the subject) image

    No

I only water pots and newly planted stuff at any time but this year has had no shortage of water. This normally dry corner of the UK still has green lawns and everything growing like mad

I learnt on Sunday when to stop....before you get too tired and fall image

I need to get a shredder, OH. did ask about putting all the privet cuttings in the compost and I did hint very strongly that if I had a shredder then I could.....it fell on deaf ears!! image

  • OL , if you get a shredder get the biggest one you can afford. I find shredding a very tedious activity if you have lots and especially if your small m/c keeps getting clogged or struggles with anything other than small stuff.

Thanks Woody, I'll bear that in mind but I have a feeling that more persuading is needed yet image I'm thinking of asking OH to chop it up with the garden shears, that might just work as a persuasion technique, we have another foot to chop off the bushes at weekend  image

Shredding is tedious WW, I agree. A bit essential here though or it would have to be massive bonfires and I don't like bonfires
