  • Hello fidgetbones,

I don't think it was a case of liking it or not with me. I was concerned at how fast it was spreading and when I did dig it out, it was very tough at the base indicating that it would have been even worse to get it out next year when it had spread everywhere!

I take it that you don't recognise it?

  • Just been out to photograph the lysimachia but it's definitely not that - leaves are too narrow and flowers don't have that distinctive bend at the end

I think it may have been veronica virginica alba - the leaves and height are right, and the flowers just like other veronicas, particularly the wild ones - can't verify the red stems though, but that could be due to the hot weather.....I don't think I would have hung onto it - too much leaf not enough flower

I have that Veronicastrum virginicum Album thing and I compared it when I first saw the thread.

I'm afraid I discounted it as mine has 6 leaves around the stem. Mine does have a reddish stem though and flops when it is thirsty.

Also the flowers have long stamen (?) and smaller spikes around the main spike which I couldn't see on the pic.

That is not to say it isn't one, or some type of veronica but I didn't reply to the OP as I had no further offers after checking that.image

Hi Victoria, I'm not positive on the lysimachia but you're right to discount veronicastrum, that's very different, especially the leaves as you sayimage
