  • Hi GG

I googled images of the willowherb and one was almost identical for the leaves and stem but the flower is quite different. Thanks for looking. I don't know where we go from here!

Nutcutlet: Thanks for replying. What colour are the stems on your lysimachia? These are a distinctive red, and although one flower seems to be slightly bent the others remain erect.

Wait a minute Beginner, I'm off to checkimage

I'll take the camera, though maybe not a good idea, I don't want all to see my weed collection

    Photo was c**p

the stems are green in the main but red around where the leaves join.

I wouldn't put too much importance on the red, plants grown drier and in the sun will be redder that those grown wetter in the shade. Mine have too much shade now.

There'll probably be more ID people around later on, see what they think.

You're right about the willowherb, different flower shapeimage

Anyone got any further ID on this one?

Gypsy, you need to start another thread to get some replies. Too confusing IDing 2 plants on one threadimage

  • Hi Nutcutlet,

With the lack of response and lack of identification my visitor is now and ex-plant! I have dug it up and binned it.

For info, it was quite a woody clump of about 12 tall stems which had spread underground in the same way as mint. Where it had spread to, about 8 inches away, a new clump of about 8 stems had formed. I can't say that I have removed all of its roots so I do expect a return visit. I also identified the source to be my neighbour as the clump went under our adjoining fence. However, they are away so I can't discuss it with them. (They bring plants back from their trips) I did notice only 1 plant on their side of the fence so can only assume that they have dug it out in the past.

Thanks for your help, and all other responders. I will look back from time to time to see if anybody identifies it.

Well, I think if I liked it I would have kept it without a name, and If I didn't I'd dig it out even with a name.
