as promised a picture of my imperata...jap blood grass.

not enough to put into garden gallery but enough to why it should be in more gardens

now turning brilliant red...at its best in couple of weeks.  these are from divisions of my own earlier this year.

 Tiarella behind...flowering for second time this year...and itself a division from a friend last autumn.

    ..I bought a single plant of this about a month ago, divided it into 7 and now it lines my obelisk border where I have roses and clematis growing.... I need about 11 plants so will divide again next Spring...  nice for us, but an invasive weed in hot climates...

    I lkie this grass but it doesn't cope with cold winters.   Miscanthus, molinia, hakonechloa and carex do well but this, fescues, stipas and penisetums are just too nesh.

    I went to a garden this week where this grass was growing as a marginal plant. It looked very good in water. It survived last winter but that wasn't a winter really was it?

    I can't keep it but have always put that down to poor dry soil rather than cold

    hi KEF... don't know what I'm gardening on...some kind of muck...laid by previous owner....

    here are a couple of my divisions... I grow it with Bergenia and squeamish perhaps for some...bedding Begonia's...lol... a tray of 20 from Tesco for £2... love the bright cheerful colours...got a whole row of it...

    Yes I know Salino.  Have it in a few places now and, like you, intend to make a larger impact of them.  May make a coloured grass, hosta and Heuchera bed this autumn.  Got my eyes on couple more hostas to incorporate there. image

    ..yeah..that'll be good...with your Hosta's and my Bergenia's...no doubt we'll both be out hunting molluscs at 11pm Verdun....   'bout the only thing we might agree on...lol...

    ..but yes seriously...I think these look so much better en masse... really looking forward to the colour changes... I've had my eye on these plants for years but strangely never got round to planting any until now... - perhaps you shouldn't keep talking about them so much...lol...
