Yes bekkie, I am a ladyimage. I live in the Fens and though to a visitor it may look flat and featureless, the more I get to know it, the more interest it has. There are many waterways for drainage, so the other day there was an entire family of swans crossing the road, there were ducks flying over the fields this morning and coots(?) in the water. Horses in the fields, and Jack Russells galoreimage

image what a kind thought bekkie; I so miss the dirt, the smells, the danger of a big cityimage When I have to go down to London to work, my colleagues say that when I leave I flee like someone escaping the plagueimage

Couldnt agree with you more! In all fairness im not in the middle of it all and am in walking distance of farmland and a nature reserve, but its not tbe same as lost of "wild" with no habitation image

Not many deer here! But not far from cannock chase i spose image

I've never been to Cannock Chase; is it a large wood. I remember working in Birmingham, 42 years ago for ATV. One evening I was so pi..ed off that I just followed the sun setting for about an hour...ended up on a housing estateimage Was hoping to find open country. It has always been my dream to live in the country, and finally achieved it at age 57. To be fair, though, I am not sure that I would have really appreciated it before then; was still loving parties, theatre and opera.image I think cities are for young people.

I really love the gallery, i take myself off there every now and then, i agree with you about cities, but im 34 and not keen!

Cannock chase and the surrounding area is a sort of nature reserve/wood (with deer and adders) but used for lots of things and very rarely quiet and never truely wild, im not knocking it, it is lovely as are hednesford hills etc.

I always wanted to live in the country, but as im not allowed to drive i need to settle for a happy medium, wont stop me daydreaming tho, enjoy it artjack im very jelous imageimage

I saw a grass snake today, it was had a line of inquisitive sparrows hopping behind it!  It slithered in to the bushes with them hopping behind.  I don't know if they were seeing it off or were just being nosey.

A few days ago I saw a number of swallows sat on a fence line, they took it in turns to fly at a jackdaw that was watching them from a nearby.

pootler, I wonder whether the sparrows were protecting their young?

bekkie, you will have to settle for a small village and get your provisions deliveredimage
