Hi sorry to change the subject but I have been looking at recipes for making pickled beet root and it says to add cloves does anyone know if this means garlic any will be welcome
Its a spice, dont know how old you are, but oil of cloves used to be used in dentistry, they are also poked into pork when you do that fancy diamond pattern on the skin. Either way they are little brown things that look a bit like the bit that comes off the top of an orange, fairly easy to get in the spice section of the supermarket, and often used in pickling
Not that ive ever done it, i hate anything remotely culinary!
Steven - look in the spice section at the supermarket, a clove is seed head off something spicy (someone will know what), often used in apple pies and stuff - cooks usually try to remove them before serving (it's like a short dried twig with 4 dried leaves and a seed on it - about 1/4" long overall). Some people hate them, very strong flavour, you don't need many!
Definitely not to be confused with a clove of garlic.
