    Bamboozle, have pm d you.

    Gran

  • Hi everyone image, it has just taken me days to read this entire thread !

I can't remember who wants what or who is offering what, sorry.

I'm just starting out with a blank canvas as my garden hasn't been used at all, ever (I believe as far back as the 1930s when these house were first built ! My Gran lived here from 1940, then my Mum took on the tenancy when my Gran died 10 years ago)), to grow anything other than a few shrubs and bulbs which my Gran had "dug holes & chucked them in around 25 - 30 years ago.

Other than those, the back garden has 1 hebe in a corner, a small flower bed I created myself in May this year, and the rest of it is grass & weeds.

Up the side of the house, we have a row of shrubs along the fence line - 1 each of  Cherry laurel, Photinia "Red Robin", buddleia, Pieris "Forest Flame", a holly, a very tall Eucalyptus gunnii and an ancient dog rose in the corner.

The back garden is approx 8m long x 6m wide. The side closest to the house wall is North facing, and the other 3 sides are all fairly open so we get sun all day from around 10am onwards. Not sure about soil type, but the hebe is really flourishing and has flowered heavily every year for the past few years. My RHS Encyclopedia of Plants & Flowers says hebes prefer neutral to slightly alkaline soil, so I'm guessing the back garden is neutral to slightly alkaline. judging by the way our hebe really thrives there.

I'm looking for anything that attracts wildlife for the back garden image.

For the garden at the side, (we don't have a front garden as such - houses are 4 in a block maisonettes, the people below us have the front garden and ours is at the side), it measures 2m in width and is 15m long. Judging by the shrubs already thriving there, especially the pieris, I'd guess that our side garden is more neutral to acidic soil.

I'm looking for more showy flowers to grow in here.

If anyone has anything which may be suitable, could you let me know please ?

I'm new to growing anything from seed so don't really have anything to offer that I've grown myself yet. I do have about 80 packets of bought seed though, so I'll see what I've got to offer from those.

Someone was looking for white alyssum ? I have a full, unopened packet of this. I bought 2 packets in the excitement. The ones I did sow grew very well and are still flowering right now here in S.E. Scotland.

    No worries fidgetbones image

PinkandWhitePoppy - I don't have a huge amount of seed but I do have tagetes tenuifolia, corn cockle, antirrhinum, delphinium, wallflower, echinacea. Let me know if you want any image

  • Thanks Victoria image. I'll have a look through the last few pages to see who wanted the alyssum.

I've listed and counted how many packets of seed I have. There are 82, some already open but most still sealed. I'll have a think about what I want to sow, then list what's left here.

Is it ok if I take a few seeds out of some sealed packets for myself then offer the rest of the packets to whoever wants them ?  Just checking seed swap etiquette image.

Thanks Fishy65 image, I'd love some corn cockle and delphiniums please. Off to check book to find out what tagetes tenuifolia are...
