I'm the one who sticks sprigs of curry plant in the GH. I also plant a few garlic chives in with my carrots.
Don't grow broad beans due to space and OH not over keen on them. I was told that if you cook the tops that you pinch out they are very tasty. Elderly chap who worked at a large house as gardener used to take them home and preferred the tops to the beans.
Verdun, please feel free, in all honesty, i hadnt thought about what goes with what as far as ornementals grow because i dont grow many, all the good spots are used for veggies! Always good to hear what others do
I've got both whitefly and greenfly that have taken over the greenhouse, and I can't get rid of them, even though I have sprayed my Tomatoes to within an inch of their lives! As a result, the flowers on my Tomatoes are getting eaten, and all I've got left of my trusses are the stalks!! What does anyone suggest as companion planting to try and deter pests for the rest of the season?
That sounds a bad infestation! White fly etc wont eat the plant, that sounds like our friends, mr slug and mr snail, if you want to go non chemical, garlic granules are fab, i use a spray made from yucca called SAS from the organic gardening catalogue, spray it all over the greenhouse and all over the plants, be careful not to wash it off when you water, ive had huge success with it.
As far as companions go its a bit late, the only thing i would say now would be a sacrificial crop of tender leaves, lettuce or something similar.
Linda you say that the flowers are being eaten and you only have stalks left as Bekkie says aphids don't eat plants. I wonder if your flowers are dropping off due to blossom drop.

That would be some veg patch Verdun!!!
I grow just nasturtiums and tagettes round veg. Nothing with toms, and chives in clumps dotted amongst the carrots.

Nasturtiums seem very popular Lyn
Verdun has posted a great picture on the thread "what's the star in your garden".
