Hi asOO7, I'm no expert, but I water my containers pretty much daily during the summer, sometimes twice, dependent on how thirsty the plants are, how hot its been and if they are in full sun or not. Mine are done first thing in the morning, so as not to give slugs an easy ride, unless something is looking particularly wilted, then I give it a drink, by watering the soil only with warm water, just to perk it up. Also I've found containers need liquid feeding more often as watering washes the nutrients away. RE pansies, I've found pansies do best in Spring and Autumn when its cooler, so my pansies are under a tree in dappled sunlight during the hot summer months.
pansies are pretty hardy and should keep regrowing if you make sure you dedhead and water everyday. i use a good slow release feed too which lasts all season
It's more important to give plants in pots a BIG drink say once or twice a week than a small amount daily. If it's really hot then a big drink daily might be required. As Caral says time of day is important, you can actually cause more damage watering in the heat of the day, especially if you water the leaves rather than the soil as it can cause scorching.
They'll benefit more from a watering early morning, or I think, even better in the evening so they've got all night to soak it up. Hmm hadn't thought about slugs, though apart from Hostas I can't say my pot plants really suffer from them

I planted 10 boxes of pansies in pots with new bagged compost, I have lost everyone with
root rot and all just come away from the soil tried everything, alpine grit. No vine weeval
spotted. I think perhaps I stopped trying although I love them, begonias seem to be the answer.
Any ideas??
