I've always watered mine in the evening and only ever container plants at that.I suppose it might encourage snails but I think if they are going to attack at night anyway then they will.
Same with me fishy, only water tubs, the border plants will make deeper roots if you dont water them. The tubs and baskets need doing daily. Only homemade compost on the borders and tomato feed in tubs and baskets.
Couldn't agree more Lyn.Border plants will always adapt in times of drought but containers being an artificial enviroment do need water.I believe container plants will have more time to absorb water if done in the evening without it being evaporated by a hot sun.Obviously level of shade etc comes into it but the back of my house is south-west facing and a sun trap.
I water when I can really, it depends in whether I have to be out early for work and then I'll do it the evening before, if not I'll do it in the morning but rarely manage to do it very early morning, usually before 9.
A few of you have said you feed on a Sunday, I'm new to feeding this year (don't laugh - I'm actually quite new to all this gardening stuff ), what do you feed weekly? I found the instructions in the tomato food quite confusing as it depends where they are and what they are in was to how often you feed them? I also fed the cucumbers and courgettes the same food which I think is right. But what else? Everything had BFB at the beginning of spring but had had nothing since, apart from the acid loving plants that get tea every other day
I feed my pots and baskets with miracle grow liquid I've diluted in a watering can full of water as they can get through their nutrients fast. I don't tend to feed the rest of the garden though
this is a really interesting thread to see that many feed weekly because like orchid lady I am new to feeding. I usually only ever water and thought that the compost provided enough nutrients for container plants. I will also give weekly feed a go
Louise, I never fed anything apart from my Orchids until this year and the difference is amazing. I fed all my border plants with blood, fish and bone at the beginning of the year. Used rose food when planting my rose bushes and special azalea/rhododendron food for those type of plants. My Rhododendron and Azalea had never flowered and this year have, I have also been feeding them with left over tea as they like it. I am really pleased, so it just shows that feeding does work, I just need to remember the container plants

Every week Panda?
Well, I did last year. Haven't quite developed my routine this year so at the moment am on a fortnightly basis
Right, I'd better get my backside into gear with even more feeding then
Thanks Panda.
