occasionally second year lilies merge their stems into a single and produce a martian lily- happened once to me-if i remember correctly flowering was very poor-its a natural unnatural thing

I don't think the flowering will be poor with all the buds its producing,
no stake yet, I'll do that tomorrow, now I know what's going on

nut's right about staking - a wild bit of weather at the wrong moment would see it off. A couple of carefully placed canes will do the job.
