Several watercress stalks are now in water in a glass waiting for the roots to appear.  We had more watercress for supper tonight and sprinkled it with lemon juice and it was lovely.

I forgot to say that the American land cress doesn't need any standing or running water ,

That's because it's not watercress Rbimage

Thanks for the link Edd.  Think I'm joining the watercress gang!

Does anyone have fish and watercress in their pond? My fish have destroyed just under £50 worth of oxygenating plants happily munching away even though the fish specialist said they don't normally like this variety. Just wondering if I can start growing water cress in there to give them something less critical to much on!

Landcress has a taste of watercress, not the same texture, more like a peppery salad leaf. I've just had the first picking of watercress grown in a trough that has a water retention gulley at the bottom, little compost just roots into water and kept in semi shade. It was yummy, crunchy and the real thing image

Ours is getting hotter, but still delish!  Although little boy announced last night he doesn't like it, and when I was hoovering today I found a wilted sprig of watercress behind the sofa - image

Quick BB2 get it in a glass of water to root it imageimageimage I do think it's an adult taste, I can remember as a child thinking home grown lettuce tasted strong.

Our foster children will eat ANYTHING if there is so much as one calorie to be had out of it.  The sprig I found was more the texture of pressed flowers, so I suspect it was beyond the restorative powers of a glass of water!!

Lots of roots on the watercress started on the windowsill on the 13th.  I am thinking of putting it outside tomorrow in some compost.  Just a thought - hope slugs and snails don't like it as I don't fancy the slime on the cress.image

They haven't taken any interest in ours, but then again it is not in an area where I find a lot of them.  Agree that slime is no match for mayonnaise.
