No not for a hedge they were supposed to be specimen plants Van Gogh Cypress Trees, bone dry when we received them yesterday, Gardening express do not want to know, they were dispatched on the 4th June sat in a van/depot for 5 days before being delivered yesterday.

Will wait till next spring then as you suggest with the Choisya. Was ready with my secateurs image   it seems to have grown so much in the last 2 years, since we had a 30ft Christmas tree cut down, which was just behind the Choisya, I suppose that took all the water, everything has thrived since it was cut down.

    Salino,

Thank you, yes the snails are such a pest, but we have a dog so do not like using pellets at ground level where he may eat them.

Has anyone noticed things growing better this year than normal?  I have had iris's in the garden, been here for 13 years and just noticed flowers for the very first time.  Also an Hydrangea I have had for years which has not flowered since I purchased it, is covered in buds ready to flower, but saying that I did dig it up and put it in a pot, so maybe that is the reason.  Our soil is rubbish here, very sandy, so have to keep feeding everything.

..never mind about the Hosta Susan, I don't use pellets either... I always think that if you really want to do something...do it...no matter what anyone else tells you...lol...so that's how I tend to carry on...so if you've got that secateurs handy and really want to cut that shrub back...don't be afraid to do so...there's still plenty of time really and you're unlikely to do it any damage... my reasoning was that it just looks too nice right now...I wouldn't have the heart to cut it...but this time next year it might be too big...  summer has only just begun....lots of time left...

...yes I've noticed so many plants have thrived this year and are much earlier in flowering...I've got viticella Clematis in flower that I wouldn't expect for another month and my Hemerocallis, which I make a diary note of each year...it starts on or around July 16th...has masses of buds and will be flowering by next week at the latest...a month early...

Found them today, back in inexcess,  chamaecyparis lawsoniana "Little Spire" These are definitely the ones, same size as the ones I have here, £32.00 each.  Way over what I wanted to pay so went to the nursery and purchased 3 x 2.5 ft "Wisselii" for £5.25 each.  Thank you all for all the help, next time I have a gardening question I will know where to comeimage
