..marvellous research from Buddyboy...although I'm not totally convinced it's that variety...I mean, why would such seemingly rare conifers find their way to an Inexcess garden centre near Bournemouth...?... I think they deal with discontinued lines in things don't they?... just seems a bit odd...
...but it's good to know it's their natural shape after all.... and isn't that a gorgeous photo above, of the paved path between houses..all those lovely shrubs and grasses leading to an archway....doesn't look like this country...but I'd like a path like that I must say...
..I've just been having a look around and I note that the plant that is more readily available here, and quite cheaply, is the 'Wisselii'...rather than 'Wisselii Saquaro' which is apparently a sport of the original....so I wonder if it's this one that you have in your garden....what do you think of that Buddyboy..?... 'Wissels saquaro' just seems somewhat expensive and unique...'Wissells' on it's own, more common... suppose it's a minor point but I like to know what these things are...lol...
..fascinating look to it...it made me think of the desert cactus...
Just found this one at my local garden centre, was £50 but has 75% off, if I purchased it does anyone know if it is likely to come round, looks a bit sick. Unsure if they re-grow
OK will do, just wondered if with a bit of TLC it would recover. Just spoken to a local nursery that has chamaecyparis lawsoniana "Wisselii" in stock £5.25 each for 3 litre pot, going to have a look this afternoon. Would never had been able to without everyone's help on here, so very much appreciated. Only trouble is, if I go to a garden centre or nursery I never leave empty handed
You seem to be very knowledgeable about plants, I have a very large Choisya in my garden but it has somewhat taken over the space, can it be cut back? if so how much by? Can do a picture if need be. Thanks again Sue
Buddyboy, Will go and have a look this afternoon at the nursery, they may have something else similar, they have loads of different varieties, just checked and they say 70m in 10 years,Choisya pictures below:
Ordered these below on offer from Groupon, wish I had not bothered, they are rubbish, do not look at all healthy to me, but they say they are fine and will pick up, lets hope so.
...I suppose it depends on where we pick up this information Buddyboy...as I've not grown it to maturity we can only go by what we can read elsewhere..the Saguaro is a shorter growing variety it seems, much shorter.. but this is what I've found on a site I regularly visit for information...
''Wisseliicypress grows rather slowly, and can be only 1 meter tall at the age of 5 years. In maturity, which is anything over 50 years, it can reach as tall as 6 meters''
...like with all our conifers they're never going to stop growing...so for our gardening lifetimes...I don't think these, so called, ultimate heights, are something I would worry about unduly... I thought it might save Susan a bit of money to go for the more usual variety....
..you've got a lovely garden of evergreens there...despite snails getting to your Hosta I notice..same for most of us...
...I wouldn't cut the Choisya back either now..not unless it was really overgrown....I don't see that with yours...it's just too nice...so I would agree with Buddyboy and leave until next Spring... or at least after it's had a first flush of flowers...
...I'm inclined to think that's some kind of mistake Buddyboy...I mean you believe that?... 70 metres in 10 years...? that's 7 metres - over 20 foot a year !.... not even Leylandii or a Eucalyptus can keep that up... not something to be taken seriously...as it's surely a 'typo' of some sort....
