Well, secateurs are to do with roses too.

I still have a few roses out, these are a sort of ground cover rose but don't know the name.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

..just picked a few of my roses before the rains came....so, I made up a little posy for October.... if anyone likes these as much as I do, then they are, clockwise from the top:-

'Kew Gardens'... (Austin shrub - pale yellow,  thornless)

'Cornelia'  (Musk - dainty pink scented flowers, best in Autumn)

'Tranquility'  (Austin shrub - white, opening with yellow centre - virtually thornless)

'Thomas á Becket' (Austin shrub - deep cerise - thorny but lovely scent)

'Lady of Shalot' (Austin shrub - orange/apricot - makes a bold splash of colour)

'Gruss an Teplitz' (Bourbon - deep red, old rose scent)

..sprig of Ceanothus 'Gloire de Versailles'....

I don't have any roses they don't grow well up here. But my friend grows beautiful roses in memory of people. She's selected a roses shrub for each of her parents etc. Her secret is she bags up road kill then buries them around the shrubs. Sorry if that's in bad taste. But it's done wonders for her roses.
