Nematodes are now applied.. I reckon I collect about 30 to 40 a day at the moment so it will be interesting to see what happens.. I'll give them a week to get started.
Only problem I foresee though is as we live in the middle of farmland where do I stop applying the damn stuff! and whats to stop the ones being destroyed just being replaced by hungry rambling slugs from further afield
I've been using nematode a for a good few years now and they work wonderfully! Protect pots best but do work on open ground, better using first thing in spring which protects the new growth and gets them growing. Then supposed to use every six weeks but I find dont quite need that cos a good balance has been established by then. They do also keep snails a bit at bay too - do find quite a few dead shells around but still snails scoffing lol .
bumper year for slugs and snail - and where have all the hedgehogs gone?
copper tape around pots works for hostas, but anything with sword-like leaves is fair game for them (iris, day lillies, montbretia) - amazed to see they've devoured oriental poppies that were still quite small plants. I've been picking snails off clematis flowers, off roses - up trees - is nowhere safe? Much as I like aquilegia they have become a thug weed in my garden this year, I'm rapidly fillimng my compost bins with them!
