     Knautia macedonica melton pastels.

Grown from seed last year. They may only last a year or two , but I can take seed off them later on in the year.

FB ,I sowed seed of Knautia , eryngium and hordeum last August and also in April to see which fared better. I'd say those sown in April ( in a cool polytunnel ) have caught up with those planted last August.

The hordeum jubatum had almost 100% germination and look like they'll flower this year.

    Devon.

I have a Knautia, but it's dark crimson. It's seeded itself, but the original plant is still there after 4 years.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

The other perennial you can grow from seed are hardy geraniums . I grew a dozen or so from a packet of mixed geranium seed from plantworld.  One small purple one flowered the first year, most in the secong year, and this little beauty this year.

I like those geraniums fidget, I got some free from GW mag and can't believe how much they have grown.  I would like some different colours though so that's a good idea image

Another questions - Cineraria, has anyone grown them? They look early pretty but nit sure from the info of they are a houseplant?

  • Ooh those Knautia are delicious. They look like Scabiosa to me. That is, the lovely wild lilac ones that are growing in the A500 verges near me! I will look them up
