  • Godd morning all,

I can see both points of view about the badgers but can't see that culling them will be a solution. I know they talk about vaccination but as someone said on telly, Brian May perhaps, why not concentrate on a vaccine for the cattle.  I was brought up on a farm and we drank milk from the cows before it was processed. Our family all tested positive for TB but the X rays showed no sign so we had been in contact with it but built up a resistance.

Glyn do you still have the wedding dress?

Chris glad to hear you had a good week, you did submit an absence note but I think I lost it.image

Gary can you record your talk and put it on youtube for us?

Becks out of curiosity has it been hot there? my plants are drying out because of the wind not the heat.

Geoff I am having a hot cross bun for breakfast would your shed like one?

I must go and practise my knee bends.

  • You're right Geoff, its an emotive issue, partly because badgers are lovely wild creatures. Would be different if it was something like rats causing this problem. And its possible to vaccinate the badgers against TB.

Lovely sunny morning here, so I'm hoping it stays like this until lunchtime. It was a bit chilly last night though, and OH suggested putting the heating on but I told him to man up a bit - then later wished the heating was on! I did put the leccy blanket on in bed for a short while. I started watching Shawshank Redemption last night - a film I could watch over and over - but it went on past my bedtime.

Flo, do you have a broomstick?

Becks, fried green tomatoes are actually rather nice - its what I will be doing with mine, as there's not a red one in sight. There's actually a recipe somewhere, I think you coat them with polenta (but cornflour would probably do). I don't have enough to make chutney or jam.

Morning all. Sun is popping in and out.image

Kate, I'm not sure what it was like here when I was away, but they all look nearly normal again this morning. We had rain in the night. Seems to have refreshed them. image

Lottie, I've never heard of Polenta!! image I'm going to leave them be for now. Someone over in Spain was trying to convince me that warmth/sun has nothing to do with ripening toms, it's all down to the age of the plant?? image

  • Hi, Becks...hope you & the little un enjoyed your holiday.

Quite right about the sun & ripening tomatoes. Ethylene gas given off by ripening fruit encourages ripening,. Over ripe bananas give-off the same gas, so it would help to put one near the green tomatoes.

  • The Bill Oddie interview was a disappointing. He was mainly talking about birdsong. All he said about badgers was that he was 'very angry' about 'ignorant politicians' who were 'ignoring scientific advice'.

The evidence for witchcraft is largely about people who believed they were witches, or others who believed that others were witches. That's largely mind games. Though that doesn't mean that genuine paranormal phenomena don't exist.

Back from the shed treating-I was told I smelt and have had a shower-now all clean and shiny again and a few quid better off

Warmth ripens tomatoes be that natural or otherwise-the banana thing is supposed to speed them along-but once one ripens the rest soon follow-they will be lovely on December25th

I cannot see how you can immunise a wild animal -is that practical?

Kate glad to see you are taking this seriously

I know nothing about witches-though some of my relatives over the years have been called evil witches

  • Don't worry Becks, neither had I until a few years ago and OH went veggie and started experimenting with all sorts of recipes - he'd never been near the kitchen much before that but now we share cooking 50/50 so I'm not complaining.

You can only immunise the wild animals that you can catch, that's the problem. As Pam's already said, it would surely be better to concentrate on developing a vaccine for the cattle.

I used to work for a witch - or maybe she was just a poisoned dwarf. Was never sure.

Geoff, I am in training - have walked up and down the stairs at least 3 times so far today. Might need cake now.
