If you find that the tomatoes wont ripen -and it may be a struggle now-pick them and put them somewhere warm indoors-they don't need light- just warmth

You can't get the staff nowadays-I trust they did not get a pressie -talking of which............

    Pressie's not cake.

Becks - sure I've read on here somewhere that if you place a banana near the tomatoes that'll help them to ripen. image

I know jean. I would rather her say she hadn't time, or be honest and say she didn't want to, rather than say she would, then not do it.. My Dad would have done it. Most things are perking up again, like the other toms, strawbs, peppers and onions. Some of the other potatoes look a bit sorry for themselves, so will empty those containers in next 2 days.

Jean it is the ethylene gas that ripened bananas give off that is supposed to redden tomatoes-I know that because I wrote itimage

  • Hi everyone

I'm back from a weeks holiday in Herefordshire.  Lovely weather, but glad to be back home to my own lovely comfy bed tonight.!. Garden needs some tlc, piles of washing to do, it makes you wonder if it's worth itimage.

Had some rather interesting cream teas, one with green tomato jam, different but tasty, am now looking on t'internet for recipes as we have a few green tommies to use up.

Hope we are all refreshed, image will catch up with everything tomorrow.

Welcome back Chris-your absence was noted but there was no sign of a holiday request-now where is Nola?

This morning I have already been for a 5K run-and I am not even jumping-were where the rest of you?

I have a shed to treat-not sure what treats to get it

  • Two nice days ahead. Wondering how to make the best of them - have billions of jobs that need doing - or enjoy sitting in the sun (there won't be much more of it).

Gave a short talk to local history society last night, where I am principal trouble maker, about witchcraft in the area. Suprisingly there's quite a lot of documentation about witchcraft in the Victorian era, due to the growing interest in folklore, spiritualism, and esoteric philosophies, at the time, and which is recorded in old newspaper records .

Big row about badger culls on the news this morning. Bill Oddie is doing the rounds on early morning news shows. He'll be appearing on Sky News shortly.

Morning all, Gary , just been reading about Bill Oddie - he is going to Westminster this morning with a guy in a badger suit.

Nice to see you back, Chris.

Had a bad night sleep due to the rain - it was chucking it down last night but now there's blue sky and sun. Few jobs to do outside so hope the weather holds. Need to have another look at pansies to see if there are any more casulties. Hubby clearing guttering again today. Where does this sludgy red coloured soil come from ? They were cleared last year and its back again. We have a weed growing in one gutter.

    Happy forking all.

    Morning.

Chris, good to have you back. Nice part of the world, Herefordshire.

Jean, I get reddish sludge as well, often in the bird bath. Wonder where it comes from.

Gary, I would love to have heard your talk. Now I have a black cat, albeit temporarily, I feel I qualify.

Geoff, you're too kind to that shed.

The red sludgy stuff I have always though comes from the tiles-perhaps the grittiness of them attracts dirt-then when it rains that ends up in the gutters with a bit of tile colouring?

The red stuff in bird baths just seems to be an algae

This may all be rubbish of course-so no change there

I see Brian May is also doing the badger thing- to be devils advocaat the farmers may have a case-I know they are animals and we are animal lovers so it is an emotive issue but I don't believe that anybody wants to kill the badgers if there was an alternative- surely
