There is not a single blade of grass left in the area where my chickens free-range. Any plants I want to keep have to have little fences round. Pam, did you let them on the grass just for 5 minutes for the photo? Yes, Gary, you do get little messages left all over the place. Unfortunately Maisie dog thinks these are doggy treats :- (  On the bright side there are not so many for me to step in!!

That is where the chickens live and they are put in at night. There are areas where they have made dust baths. The grass is greener where they are than in the rest of the garden. It must be the chicken poo. I agree with FloBear, Khan thinks the same as Maisie. I let them roam in the garden in the winter when they can't do much harm and I haven't had many slugs and snails in spite of the weather.

Geoff, samphire is a plant that grows on sea cliffs, but I've never tried it. I've never seen it for sale anywhere.

I let the chickens roam in the winter as well-then reseed the bare patches in the spring-they make a bit of a mess but I can live with it.

So what does samphire taste like?-and don't say samphireimage

It tastes a bit like asparagus, lovely saut??ed with butter, not sure if cooking it like that is good for the old arteries though.

    Hi all.

Am, sort of, finally watching the Olympics. Busy day, started early after a disturbed night- daughter on weird rota at the mo. Lots of things to be done, now all sorted. Oh no, tell a lie, 1 more thing to sort, but that will get done tomorow.....

Finally got the chance to sit out with a book, but had done a lawn cut beforehand. Also had tea outside too & have watered all the big pots & returned pot saucers to the majority.

Ppetal- that's a good price for a penstemon. Especially if a nice one with lots of cutting material. One of my jobs for tomorrow is doing cuttings- must get up earlish as will be cooler with greenhouse, where I do such things, being in the shade until late morning. By then anyway will have had enough if it's as hot as today. J.

I dont particularly like asparagus Geoff. Every year I try it, but unlike daughter & OH, dont see what all the fuss is about.

Right, am now going to actually watch some atheletics etc. J.
