Hi. Ihave had some success recently using a simple method that can be used on planters too
Tbis an inversion of the wick technique but done from within. I use the tub my girlfriend ate all the ice cream from and punch 5 holes the thickness of the five 12" lengths of rope you have pushed through the fastened on lid, braided is best, insert so they touch the tub bottom and dangle out 8"
Drill two larger holes into which you insert a pipe, one sticking up above where the soil level is by a couple of inches and one positioned at an angle and of a length so that it comes to rest just above the rim of the basket. If in the mood silicone round tbe pipe entry points and let dry.
Put the contraption in the bottom of your basket the room it takes up saves two litres of soil for a start. Fill basket arranging rope throughout the soil evenly avoiding dropping soil down centre pipe. where it will soon slowly be delivering water drWn from the tub.Put plants in
Fill tub through side pipe, you soon wont be able to find it! Until liquid emerges from centre pipe.
For good measure put a cork with a straw pushed in as a visual indicator of reservoir level
Your baskets will never be deprived and with addition of nutrients to the liquid Ive grown with this nethod in regular 14" baskets that easily compare with those on your link and using only half the soil and plants from regular shops. the nutrients I use are advanced but even without them this will transform your baskets in future, all it is is the plants are not growing the roots they need to achieve their potential and flourish beyond anything you grew before, instead of just surviving, putting out only the bare minimum roots.
Basket upsizing is pointless until you resolve this as it presumes only that you dont have enough soil and will only gives you more of the same problem, which is incorrect watering.
