I think alot has to do with the siting of the baskets - they need shelter, warmth and enough sun. The begonias in the photo elow do really well at the front of my house but when placed on the rear house wall with the same compost, watering etc.

They are hard work, i grow all my plants from seeds and cuttings, never buy anything, so its hard work from start to finish, but i love it.

Wow these hanging baskets are just gorgeous!! Yes I heard one of the golden rules was to overfill the basket with plants.I did do one a few years back now that I was very pleased with, even if I say so myself but haven't really matched it since.I always think hanging baskets are where Petunias really come into their own.

That's very kind of you Verdun!  image Not an artist just the right plant in the right place. I bought the trailing begonias several years ago and have over wintered them ever since then. Three tubers in each basket that cost me nothing but reward me with a good show with a long flowering period every year.

I agree with you there, cramming in loads looks good before they grow to full potential, then they stop growing, better to give then

space for the start, i have only 8 in mine. My daughter says i put too many in!

Yes, I agree, from my experience start with a few, they will bloom to their full potential in no time and fill the space up, other than that, get a bigger basket.....http://headgardener.net/
