There are average gardens, but not in my experience, average gardeners. We all have in our own way differing likes and dislikes. Some weeks I am enthralled by a topic, others leave me cold. I want enthusiasm and passion from a knowledgable presenter, I want to learn.
I was Geoffrey Smith's biggest fan - my ex firmly believed that if I ever left it would be for Mr Smith (well, he was wrong there ).
His series Geoffrey Smith's World of Flowers, where he went back to where our garden plants come and looked at the original species and the way they've been developed was worthy of a medal and if I am ever cast ashore on a Desert Island one of my 8 records will be a recording of Geoffrey Smith on Gardener's Question Time responding to someone bemoaning the difficulties of a shady garden - he just reeled off all the wonderful plants that love shade, and described them all so beautifully - it was like poetry.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
He doesn't have a garden programme but Prince Charles has similar views to my own .Organic loves trees has created a stumperie and leads by example.
There are people here on this forum who are also equally knowledgable and share that knowledge, I appreciate there contributions and have appreciated there views. Carex testa!!!?! Something, Lilly of the valleys, pond comments.
I met Geoffrey Smith several times during the filming of GW at Clack's Farm......he was a really nice guy. It was there that I also met Percy Thrower, Clay Jones, Peter Seabrook (not keen) and Gay Search.

Lily beetles fall into all those categories!
I used to love Geoffrey Smith. Does anyone remember him?

long live the average gardener.
I remember Geoffrey Smith, I liked him, but he did like his dwarf conifers! I have a book by him.
I liked Monty presenting Chelsea tonight better than I like him of GW. Thought he did a good job.
He did seem more relaxed.
