Disease on outdoor plants

This weekend my pyracantha started looking quite I'll and the ends looked burnt, this has now spread to my ivy and my laurel. Has anyone got any ideas what it could be and any solutions because i am really worried it's going to continue to spread? Would appreciate any help.

Could the new growth have been frosted do you think? I can see that it's new tips on the laurel but I can't tell with the ivy.

We had a hard frost  couple of weeks ago that browned off some new growth. I can't see the pyracantha properly but my laurel is looking a bit like that in places.

The other thing that upsets new growth is chemicals. Not necessarily yours.image

  • Maybe, we have had a bit of frost, but it worries me that it seems like it's spreading. My other pyracantha at the other end of the garden is doing brilliantly and shows no sign of damage so if it was frost I would of thought it would of affected other plants as well.

It might not affect both shrubs, a garden is full of more or less sheltered places. See what other people think, mine won't be the only response you get.

  • Thanks very much, really appreciate your input image

  • I think it might be frost/chill damage. I just had a wander around my garden and even though we had a very very mild frost I have lots of brown/purple leaves on my new growth, but it's only affected some plants of the same type. As nut says your other Pyracantha might have been in a nice sheltered spot.

It does look like frost damage to me -  and it can vary within a very small area - when we had those frosts the other day they were sharp at the front of the house, new growth on the neighbour's lilac was burnt, but we didn't get any frost at the back of the house - it stayed +2C

I have damage like that on one Pierris and on Griselinia. New growth and a night's bad frost. They will recoverimage

  • Thanks so much for all your responses, you have given me great faith that they will recover...phew! image
