I'm sure I'll end up with a border full of a messy tangled thicket of brown stuff if im not careful!

Thanks Verdun. Just finished digging out the grass, have planted the grass I already had ( stipa aurithingibob), some fennel, guara, verb bon, . Most of dafs moved elsewhere. I'll leave it at this for a while, add some stipa ten from a generous forumer when we get together. And of course the fox tails when / if the seeds grow or for next year.

Also renaming it the feather bed!

so, it's neither the grass border I envisaged , or the feather bed, but this is what I ended up with...

Thanks Lily, the feathery grass was recommended on here, seeds sown quite late but all 70 germinated well!

Trouble with seedlings from this lot (hordeum) Verdun, are that the leaves look exactly like ordinary grass! I will definately sow again (and earlier) as I love them! Just not sure how to make the most of them - I have some amongst margurites which works quite well. They need some support from another plant rather than 'staking'. I do like them 'en masse'. Any suggestions for companion planting to support them but not interfere with their beauty?

I've also really enjoyed the Helictotrichon sempervirens, which are taller, earlier and a nice bluish clump of low neat leaves.
