8 today and first time on the potted lilies. I had to treat the pots for vine weevil grubs about six weeks ago and didn't seem to have any problems with lily beetles on the potted ones up until today. Does anyone know if the vine weevil  treatment will have kept the lily beetle at bay?

I sprayed mine 3 weeks ago with Provado. OH actually saw two of the blighters fly in and land about 20 mins ago. Now a nice pattern on patio. image  S.Yorks.

I grow lilies in pots and as soon as I touch the leaves the beetles drop and turn upside down and I cant find them, so I use a cotton wool bud dipped in Vaseline and they stick to it, this also works for the grubs under the leaves. image

Brilliant idea about the cotton wool bud dipped in vaseline.  I manage to squish at least a couple every day or so but find them difficult to grab! Good thinking Joybell

Caught 10 so far today. Very clever little things, but I like the idea of a cotton bud with vaseline on, will try it on the next one I find.

Spoke to soon, just had our first lilly beetle today, a well let the fight commence...

  • Got a Lilly given which was bought from a big Swedish store. Had loads of buds which fell of over three days. Saw some beetles the other day and thought i google it. Then came to this great helpfull site. Are they the cause that most of the buds fell of. Does anybody know....live in Wolverhampton.

  • Hi hennypennys garden what colour were the beetles if crimson red I'm afraid so keep a lookout for more little blighters and squash them also lookout for the grubs on leaves
