i'm another newbie and hace learned almost all i know over the last 3 years since i left work to be full time mum, almost all i read is gardening//plant books.magazines, whenever sitting feeding or little ones napping, i love gw tv programme it's full of good info and this website is the best thing ever!so much info so many friendly helpful interested and interesting people
The thing I love about this site is the fact that its inclusive. There's gardening professionals with years of experience and knowledge that they generously share, keen amateurs like me with a passion to soak up as much garden know how as I can and folk who are new to gardening, maybe having their first garden to look after. The wonderful thing about gardening is the fact that the more you know the more you know you don't know! There's always more to discover and that's the joy of this site.
I agree - used to think i knew very little, but i am learning more every season. I occasionally even answer questions, as well as ask them - wouldn't have dreamed of doing that a year ago. The real joy of this site is the power of collective knowledge, and just how generous people are at sharing it. The internet is a great enabler of that. So thank you, Daniel and the team, for making it all possible.
Good grief David, did you never learn to use a nail brush?
Mum tried to involve me in gardening as a child but I wasn't interested until I was older, loved it and still have the first plant I remember buying. Then I never had a 'forever' garden until now and have sort of become obsessed since then, thanks to the forum! Mum and sister are much more experienced than me (of course I still think I know best!), we all have different niches, mum traditional and not interested in names of plants, sister nature, veg, wildlife all the way, me as many flowers as I can and trying to learn names and how to care for them properly rather than on a fingers crossed basis (although that's often a fail-safe approach).

Think we've developed into a great community - everyone's welcome and has something to contribute

When it comes down to it I don't know much at all.
I've grown a lot of hardy plants and can recognise them.
I can grow hardy plants from seed.
My garden is more of a wildlife reserve than a normal garden.
I couldn't run a veg patch or look after tender plants.
and I still can't keep cuttings alive.
In the sticks near Peterborough
I am clearly a cross between Verdun and nutcutlet, I will let you all work out the characteristics that I have inherited.
You obviously look like your father
